Tulip Long-lasting 'Mondriaan Mix' Bulbs

This tulip variety is prized for its long last qualities. It is touted as an all season variety. This mix have a striking blend of red, orange, yellow, and purple tulips.  These tulips bloom in mid/late spring and stand on sturdy stems. They do best in full sun in well-draining soil. Suitable for borders and containers alike. 

Tulips originate from Central Asia and were first cultivated in Persia as early as the 10th Century. They spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world throughout the centuries. Specific varieties can only be reliably propagated through rhizome proliferation, making bulbs to specific treasured varieties highly valuable. During the height of Dutch Tulipmania in the 1600's, people were known to have sold their homes, and the like, for a single bulb of certain varieties.

Planting Guidance: To plant tulip bulbs in the USA, choose a full-sun location with well-draining soil in the fall, typically 6-8 weeks before a hard frost, or when the ground is cool. Plant bulbs with the pointy tip facing up at a depth of about 6 inches (or three times the bulb's height), spacing them 2-5 inches apart depending on the desired effect. Water well after planting and, for added protection against pests and cold, cover the area with chicken wire or mulch.

Timing is key: Plant bulbs in the fall, 6 to 8 weeks before a hard frost. This allows them to develop roots before winter.
Regional differences:
Colder climates: Plant in September or October.
Warmer climates: You can plant later in the fall, even into December or January.
Soil temperature: The best time to plant is when the soil temperature drops below 60°F.
Where to Plant
Sunlight: Select a spot that receives at least six hours of full sun each day.
Soil type: Tulips need well-draining soil. Amend heavy clay soil with compost or other organic matter to improve drainage.
Pest prevention: If deer or other animals are a problem, plant in a fenced area or cover the planting area with chicken wire secured with rocks.
How to Plant
Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil by digging to a depth of about a foot and mixing in compost or a balanced granular fertilizer (like 5-10-10).
Plant the bulbs:
Orientation: Place the bulbs with the pointed tip facing up and the flatter end down.
Depth: Plant them about 6 inches deep, or roughly three times the height of the bulb.
Spacing:
For a dense look (like a cutting garden), space bulbs 2-3 inches apart.
For a more natural, open feel, plant them 4-5 inches apart.
Water: Water the newly planted bulbs thoroughly to encourage root development.
Mulch (Optional): Cover the area with a layer of pine bark or shredded leaves to protect the bulbs from extreme temperatures.
