Description
Also known as ivy gourd, baby watermelon, little gourd or gentleman's toes, it produces small edible gourds that are prepared in curries or stir fried.Also known as giloda in Gujarati, dondakaya in Telugu, kovakka in Malayalam and Tamil, tondli in Marathi, tondekayi in Kannada, kundru in Hindi.
This plant is a perennial climber with single tendrils and glabrous leaves. The leaves have 5 lobes and are 6.5–8.5 cm long and 7–8 cm wide. Female and male flowers emerge at the axils on the petiole, and have 3 stamens. In the northern states it is treated as an annual, but can be stored indoors during the winter months.
