Hyacinth(Papdi)Bean-Priya

Priya or Dolichos lablab is a flat green hyacinth bean that grows on a very decorative vine that grows rapidly, likes the summer heat and can be used as a vegetable. The complete plant is edible: young leaves can be eaten in a salad, and older leaves can be cooked. Even the flowers are edible raw, and Priya grows white or pink flowers.

Planting Guidance: This bean can grow in a wide range of soil textures, from heavy clays, if well drained, to sandy soils. It is nor- mally adapted to the same areas as cowpeas. It tolerates acidic soils better than most legumes, growing well when soil pH is 4.5–6.5, and it does well in low fertility soils.
