Hyacinth(Flat Valor)Bean-Nirvana

Nirvana is a long, flat bean (or Dolichos lablab) with smooth, green skin that grows as a Hyacinth bush. These papdi beans should be picked when young and still tender because as they mature, they get woody and fibrous and are inedible. With have a taste similar to green beans, try it in a Sabzi dish, as Papdi chi bhaji, or can be used in nearly any green bean dish!

Planting Guidance: This bean can grow in a wide range of soil textures, from heavy clays, if well drained, to sandy soils. It is nor- mally adapted to the same areas as cowpeas. It tolerates acidic soils better than most legumes, growing well when soil pH is 4.5–6.5, and it does well in low fertility soils.
