Description
Nile Emerald or Melokhia (or Corchorus olitorius) is a variety native to Egypt, and used provide a heavily desired viscous texture to soups and stews, similar to okra. The Jute leaf is edible and used extensively in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Mediterranean, and are high in nutrition. Eating just 5 oz of this vegetable can provide the recommended daily allowance of iron, twenty times more than cabbage and four times as much as spinach. It also provides twice as much Vitamin A in each serving as spinach.
