Sacred Indian Lotus
Description
Sacred Indian Lotus, or Nelumbo nucifera is a beautiful flower with ancient origin and deep significance. Nelumbo is a genus of aquatic plants consisting of solely two species, and Nelumbo nucifera is the species also known as the sacred, or Indian Lotus (though it is interesting to note that the genus "Lotus" is reserved for a completely unrelated flower). While the lotus is the national flower of India and Vietnam, its flowers can be found throughout much of Asia. Different parts of the plant are consumed in different ways throughout Asia. Most notably the Lotus flower has a significant symbolic importance in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the path to spiritual enlightenment. Whether you are an experienced water gardener, or new to the process, Indian Lotus is a beginner-friendly addition to any home, bringing beauty and serenity right to your garden!
