Description
Lukat/Loquat or Eriobotrya japonica is an evergreen tree that is cultivated for ornamental purposes, as well as its fruit. While native to southern China, Loquat is commercially cultivated in India. A majority of the cultivation occurs within Punjab. The trees can grow as tall as 5-10 meters tall, but average around 3-4 meters. Loquat is unusual in its fruiting as it flowers and bears fruit from Autumn through Spring.
Lukat fruit grow in clusters. The fruit are ovular, round, or pear shaped, and range from orange to yellow in color;. The fruit are typically sweetest when they are soft and yellow.
