Description
Cinnamon or ,Cinnamomum verum, is a tropical evergreen tree, with ovate-oblong shaped leaves are native to Sri Lanka. These trees are primarily prized for the dried cambium layer of their bark, which is what makes the prized spice Ceylon Cinnamon. A relative of Indian Bay Leaf(Cinnamomum tamala ), Cinnamon leaves can serve as a substitute.
The leaves are also regarded in Ayurvedic medicine as a stomach/digestive aid, among other things, and is used to brew tea for such purposes. Cinnamon has also received more attention recently in the scientific community, implicating it other various health benefits. Cinnamon oil is also extracted from leaves, stem, etc for commercial use. Their partially developed buds can also be dried and used as a substitute for cloves.
