Chikoo/Sapote Tree Seeds
Description
hikoo, or Manilkara zapota, is also commonly known as sapodilla, sapote, is an evergreen tree native to Central America. It found its way to Asia through Spanish colonization of the Philippines. It is not grown in large quantities throughout Asia, including India. These trees can live up to 100 years and can grow up to 30 meters tall in the right climate! Even though the trees can take several years to bear fruit when grown from seed, their leaves have also been implicated in having various medicinal properties. The sap of this tree is also known as chicle which is used as a gum and other purposes.
Their fruit is a large berry, approx. 2-3 inches in diameter. The fruit is quite sweet and malty when ripe. The flesh color of the fruit can range from pale yellow to earthy brown in color, with a grainy texture that is similar to a ripe pear.
