The Tea Plant, or Camelia sinensis var. assamica, is an evergreen shrub that is native to the Indian subcontinent and other East/Southeast Asian countries. This large leaf variety is known for making the amazing tea that can be found in the Assam region of India. Its leaves, leaf buds, and stems can all be used to produce various types of Tea. This includes, white ,yellow, green, oolong, dark, and black tea.  Makes a great container plant.  Get your own plant so you can enjoy your own fresh batches of Assam Tea!

Planting Guidance: Sunlight:
Camellia sinensis prefers partial shade, especially in warmer climates. Full sun in cooler areas is tolerable, but strong midday sun can scorch leaves.
Wind Protection:
Shelter from cold, dry winds is crucial, as these can damage buds and flowers, especially during winter.
Soil:
Well-drained, slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5-6.5) is ideal.
Hardiness Zones:
Camellia sinensis thrives in USDA Hardiness Zones 7-9, but can be grown in colder climates with proper winter protection or as container plants
Watering: Water regularly to maintain evenly moist soil, but avoid waterlogging.
Fertilizing: Apply balanced fertilizer with micronutrients during spring and summer.
Pruning: Prune to maintain desired shape and size, and encourage bushy growth for optimal leaf harvest.
