Spinach-Long Standing Bloomsdale

Long Standing Bloomsdale is a very cold-hardy heirloom variety of Spinach, or Spinacia oleracea, with dark green leaves and heavily savoyed texture. Exceptionally rich in carotenoids, including beta-carotene and lutein, and also contains quercetin, a phytochemical with antioxidant properties. It is also rich in vitamins A, E, K, and C, calcium, iron and potassium. and minerals, particularly folate (folic acid), magnesium, and manganese and iron.

Planting Guidance: In order to grow spinach twice a year, plant it about 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost in the spring, and again 6 to 8 weeks before the first frost in the fall. Space plants 12 inches apart; this gives leaves room to reach full size. Sow seeds 1/2 of an inch deep every 2 inches and cover with 1/2 inch of soil. Plant in rows 12 to 18 inches apart or sprinkle over a wide row or bed.
