Bitter gourd-Shanghai

Sayonara is a type of Bitter gourd or Bitter melon, or Momordica charantia. This type of Bitter gourd is common in East Asia, and is less bitter than the South Asian varieties. Fruits are shiny light green with continuous attractive ribs and few bubbles. Fruits are 15 inches in length with blunt end and weighing up to 1.5 lbs. A very high yielding high quality hybrid. The plants are vigorous and early.

Planting Guidance: It grows best in full sunlight and in sandy or loamy soil that is well-drained. The pH level of the soil should range from 5.5 to 6.7. If the soil is lacking nutrients, compost needs to be added to make the plant fertile. Bitter gourd seeds are considered difficult to germinate. We recommend filing the sides of the seed coat with a nail file and soaking the seed in warm water overnight before sowing 1/2 in deep. Ensure to dry the outer coat of the seed prior to sowing to minimize the risk of fungal growth.
