Grafted Alphonso Mango Tree-Limited Stock

Alphonso Mango is a variety of Mangifera indica that originated in India in the 1500's. Grafting of mango trees was introduced to India in Portuguese occupied Goa by Jesuit missionaries. This is where the variety owes it origin.  This is why the variety's namesake is a Portuguese Viceroy, Afonso de Albuquerque. This variety became wildly popular across India and other parts of the world and is considered to be one of the most expensive mango varieties. They are prized for the creamy, rich, juicy, non fibrous nature of their fruit. 

Alphonso mango is a seasonal variety. After reaching the proper maturity, they take about 90 days from flowering to harvest. They typically produce fruit through April-June in the right climate.

Planting Guidance: Mango trees do best in warm climates and need at least 8 hours of sun per day to flower and produce fruit. They are considered to be hardy to USDA zone 9-11. They do best in nutritious, well draining soil, and should be thoroughly watered to quench their tap root, but allowed to dry slightly in between waterings. Mango trees can be grown in lower zones in a pot, but must be brought indoors during colder weather. Fertilization and watering should be tapered during the winter.
